Strasbourg rejects Czech emigrants' restitution complaint

The European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg has rejected a complaint brought by four Czech emigrants with US citizenship against the Restitution Act, which stipulates that property confiscated by the Communist regime can only be restituted to Czech citizens. The CR representative in the case, Vit Schorm, says the verdict creates a precedent that offers future claims little chance of success. The decision could affect hundreds of Czech emigrants, according to former Foreign Minister Miroslav Bures. (HN 1)
